SSRU Partners with Government
Savings Bank (GSB) to Empower Students
in Developing Pomelo Leaf-Based
Community Products for Sustainable
Market Opportunities
On September
15, 2026, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat
University (SSRU) hosted the "GSB
Youth Development for Local
Sustainability (GSB Yuvaphat Rak Thin)
Project Achievement Presentation"
at the Faculty of Engineering and
Industrial Technology building. The
event was driven by a collaborative team
including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wittaya
Mekkham, Vice President for Planning and
Quality Assurance; Mr. Wisut
Siripornnoppakun, Deputy Director for
Administration at the Research and
Development Institute; Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Jatuporn Unprasertsuk, a lecturer at the
College of Allied Health Sciences; and
representatives from the Government
Savings Bank.
SSRU and the Government
Savings Bank have continued the
"GSB Youth Development for Local
Sustainability" project for the
eighth consecutive year. This initiative
offers students the opportunity to apply
classroom knowledge and research
findings to real-world community
projects, fostering product development
and marketing capabilities to create
opportunities and support the grassroots
economy.
For the 2026 project cycle, a
team of students from the Medical and
Public Health Secretary program at the
College of Allied Health Sciences, along
with their faculty advisors,
collaborated with the "Ruen Mai
Hom" Community Enterprise in Bang
Cha Kreng Subdistrict, Mueang District,
Samut Songkhram Province. They developed
a "Pomelo Leaf Extract Toner
Pad," transforming local resources
into a natural skincare
product.
Beyond product development, the
students also participated in label and
packaging design, online promotional
activities, and the creation of new
marketing channels, thereby enhancing
the community product's market
readiness. ...and supports future
product development.
These operations
reflect the university's role in
connecting knowledge, students, faculty,
and network partners with community
development needs. Simultaneously,
students gain hands-on experience in
product development, communication,
design, and marketing—skills and
experiences applicable to their future
careers. This aligns with SDG 4, which
aims to promote learning and the
development of practical
skills.
Furthermore, the collaboration
among the university, the Government
Savings Bank (GSB), and community
enterprises serves as a mechanism to
integrate resources and expertise from
various sectors to drive community
development. This aligns with SDG 17
(Partnerships for the Goals) and
connects to SDG 8 (Decent Work and
Economic Growth) by enhancing product
potential and expanding market
opportunities for the
community.
The "GSB Yuvapat Rak
Thin" (GSB Youth for Local
Development) initiative thus serves as
both a platform for experiential
learning for students and a mechanism to
leverage university expertise to build
upon local resources and identities. It
supports product development and
empowers the community and the
grassroots economy to achieve
sustainable growth.
